Basseterre, St. Kitts– Reports Wednesday of a thriving black market in St. Kitts and Nevis in which fake drivers licenses have been sold.

According to various sources, as many as 3,000 fake licences could be in the possession of persons who paid between EC$1,500 and $5,000 for the false documents.

Persons with these fake drivers licenses are said to be operating several types of vehicles including cars, trucks, heavy duty equipment and motorcycles.

The ringleaders are said to be close relatives of a high government official in the Team Unity Administration.

Sources have informed that based on information provided, police over the past few weeks have been going to the homes of suspected holders of fake licences in certain areas and quietly asking them to give them up.

The source said no charges have been brought by police in this matter.
