St. Kitts and Nevis,  (SKNP)  – Social media is abuzz with friendly chatter as the the site plan for the “Nevis Athletics Stadium” which will feature a FIFA certified football pitch and an IAAF certified Mondo all weather athletics track is set to be made for public viewing at the Charlestown Library and Post Office this coming week.

According to the Social Media release, a Mr. Michael Tovar, the Director of Track Division for Mondo, (the company that has laid all the tracks for World Championships and the Olympic Games since the 1970’s) is on Island today Friday for meetings with the project’s technical team headed by Project Manager Mr. Timothy Caines, and representatives of the Nevis Island Administration. Meetings are intended to finalize contract and timelines for the construction and installation of the track.

The release further stated that the meetings are a culmination of 18 months of work which included design, site selection, testing and costing. Phase 1 of the project is estimated to cost EC$10.1 million and is planned for completion in April 2017. The project is being executed under the Ministry of Tourism, Sport and Culture.

Hon. Mark Brantley is the driving force behind the project and is proud that his Ministry and the CCM-led Administration can bring about the single largest and most tangible investment in youth and in sport in Nevis’ history. Not only will the facility give Nevisian athletes a world class facility to train and compete; but it is also intended to begin a new economic thrust in sports tourism in the courting and hosting of athletic teams and football clubs from cold climate countries once the facility is completed.

This is a major commitment to the youth of Nevis and Min. Brantley had high praise for his Cabinet colleagues for approving and supporting this project.
