Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 31, 2018 – Shocking revelation that after months of maligning then Commissioner of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Dr. Celvin CG Walwyn by the then opposition Team Unity leadership prior to and during the 2015 general election campaign, new Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris and his Attorney General, Vincent Byron asked Walwyn to stay on the job.

Dr. Walwyn, a guest on “Ask the Leader” in response to a question from host Erasmus Williams on whether Dr. Douglas, in his capacity as Prime Minister and Minister of National Security had given him political directives, shocked listeners with information not known to the public.

“I do not know if Dr. Douglas (who was prime minister at the time) wants me to say this or not, but I had already resigned to come back to the (United) States in December (2014), because I had to complete my dissertation in Florida and I wrote my resignation and I gave it to Dr. Douglas. He told me to hold on to it and just wait until after the election, said Walwyn via telephone from Orlando, Florida.

He said: “When I was leaving, when the election was over, there was no need for me to stay. So I sat down with the new PM (Dr.) Harris, and I told him that I had already decided to leave; that I had to complete my dissertation and if I do not do it now I will have to wait another year and it is going to cost me US$10,000 more. I do not want to do this.

I got a call from Prime Minister Harris on the Wednesday and he knew I was leaving and he did not want me to leave because it would not look good to see that he is getting inaugurated and his Commissioner of Police is not there. I said well I had already purchased my ticket, and I am leaving on Saturday. He said well chose another day because I want you to be here. He said ask the AG (Attorney General) Byron) to buy you a ticket.” Walwyn revealed.

He added: “I met with the AG, I think it was the Friday and he said ok he will purchase the ticket. Now, I went to the inauguration. Before I went to the inauguration, the AG called me to his office and he told me he do not want me to leave, they would like me to stay and all the stuff they were talking were political talk; they know if I leave St. Kitts things are going to go backwards and they would like me to stay to go through the changes they have to make. I told him Sir, I have to leave, I can’t, I have to complete my dissertation, and this is my last chance. He said ‘talk to your wife, your preacher to see if they would encourage you to stay.’

That night, after the inauguration, I went home and got all my stuff together and I went to the airport. Seven ‘o’ clock in the morning, the plane is supposed to leave. I go to the counter to get my ticket, and my ticket was cancelled. They cancelled my ticket because I chose to go. I reached in my pocket and pulled out my own credit card and I paid $700 for the ticket and I flew home,” said the former police commissioner in a shocking disclosure.
