Cabinet ministers and constituents boycott PM Harris birthday service

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – The Nation is in shock that not one of the several Cabinet Ministers in the Team Unity Government was present at the much publicised special church service to mark his birthday on Sunday.

Hundreds of villagers from Ottley’s, Lodge, Molineux, Phillip’s, Christ Church, Mansion and Belle Vue in St. Christopher also boycotted the church service was held at the Covenant Outreach Ministry in Phillip’s Village.

Also absent were the entire top leadership of Harris’ People’s Labour Party (PLP), Deputy Political Leader, His Excellency Ambassador Sam Condor and Chairman, Mr. Douglas Wattley

And only niece, Sen. the Hon. Akilah Nisbett from the Federal Assembly attended the service.

A press release from Ms. Valencia Grant, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister confirmed that none of Dr. Harris’ Cabinet colleagues and permanent secretaries was present.

The release said in attendance were the newly appointed Deputy Speaker of the National House of Assembly and niece of Dr. Harris, Sen. Honourable Akilah Nisbett and His Excellency Ambassador Michael Powell, Special Envoy in the Office of the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The other members of the three-party coalition are the People’s Action Movement (PAM) which has four seats and the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) two seats. The PLP has one seat, that of Dr. Harris.
