BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – An appeal to the Timothy Harris Team Unity Government (TUG) to employ four young Kittitian doctors who returned home from Cuba a few months ago.

“Our people go to the health facilities for services on a regular basis. Our people have been to the Accident & Emergency (A&E) area at our hospital.  There is a shortage of medical staff among our doctors, yet there are four young doctors – two females and two males – who have successfully passed their exams, have graduated, have been welcomed home by the relevant authority, but the coalition government of Dr. Timothy Harris, has refused to provide them with employment,” said former Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

All are from the rural areas.

“The question arises. Why are they been treated like this government?” asked Dr. Douglas who referred to remarks several months ago by Dr. Harris about Cuba, its training programmes and the Cuban leadership.

“What is it that these young people have done this government that is so wrong that the government refuses to employment? They have come from poor families and they have sacrificed a lot,” said Dr. Douglas who mentioned the anguish of single mother parents.

Dr. Douglas called on the government to address the matter urgently “instead of having the two ministers of health fighting among themselves.”
