DuPont Jewellery EC$40,000 heist and Nigel’s Snackette burglarised

Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 24, 2018 – DuPont’s Jewellery in the Pelican Mall, downtown Basseterre was restocking Saturday following a break-in earlier in the week.

Proprietor Carlton DuPont confirmed Saturday, that a thief or thieves made off with jewellery and other items worth some EC$40,000 in value.

“Silver watches and chains and some gold were stolen. We are restocking to reopen on Monday to serve our customers,” DuPont said.

The store was closed after thieves broke into the store Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

Police are also investigating another break-in at Nigel’s Snackette on Victor Road. Some cash was said to be stolen.

The business is owned by Nigel Arthurton, father of Shaquille Pemberton, whose body was found in bushes near the Control Tower at the Robert L. Bradshaw Intentional Airport. Police are yet to inform the public of the results of a second autopsy.

There is also a report of a vehicular accident near the Zion Moravian Church school room a few nights ago.

A young woman driving a pick-up, observed a vehicle following her. Fearful that it was robbers increased her speed and in doing so lost control and collided with a FLOW panel box.

The vehicle following the woman was said to be an unmarked vehicle driven by police officers, who only turned on the emergency lights and siren after the collision.
