Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 29, 2018 – Leader of the Opposition the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has welcomed the political support given to his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) candidate for St. Christopher 4 in the upcoming general elections, Mr. Steve Wrensford, by former PAM/Team Unity supporter, Mr. Wilmoth Doyling.

In response to Doyling’s statement that as a small businessman and citizen of St. Kitts and Nevis he is suffering from the high level of nepotism by the Timothy Harris-led Team Unity Government Dr. Douglas said St. Kitts and Nevis has limited resources and if there is a system in allocating opportunities for work, in providing services and goods to the government, “it must be fair and inclusive of all.”

“We are a small country. We have limited resources, but all of us are citizens. If there is a system in allocating opportunities for work, in providing services and goods to the government, I believe this system must be fair and it must be inclusive of all.

Dr. Douglas reaffirmed Mr. Doyling’s statement that he was given work by the National Housing Corporation (NHC) during the previous Labour Party Government although he supported the then opposition PAM.

“He (Steve Wrensford) can rely on my support. About two weeks ago I took Mr. Wrensford through Challengers and Stone Fort project, house to house. I told him ‘we are going to go house to house and we are not going to skip anybody’s house. You are going to introduce yourself to everybody in Challengers. That is where I am from and have lived all my life,” said Doyling.

In welcoming Mr. Doyling’s support, Dr. Douglas reiterated that the Labour Party is a party for all the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“Again I say to the people of this country that a Labour Administration would be inclusive of all persons of different political persuasions. I stand to my words then and I stand to my words today,” said Douglas, the former prime minister.

Dr. Douglas in an invited comment said the public and private statements of regret by so many persons who voted for the Team Unity coalition, vindicates his message time and time again during the last general election campaign. that “Dr. Harris was an exceptionally selfish and one whose actions would border on corruption.”

“I said he would practise nepotism and cronyism as we are now seeing,” he recalled. Photo – Former Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas (right) and local backhoe and truck owner, Wilmoth Doyling.
