Girls Football Initiative Named in Honour of Tesril Nisbett

Celebrating Tesril’s Legacy – The St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association in collaboration with the Department of Sports and Education on Nevis, launched a Female Football Development initiative at the Elquemedo Willett Park yesterday, Saturday 25 January.

Four Primary Schools participated in the inaugural Tesril Nisbett Cup. The teams represented were the Charlestown Primary, Nevis Academy, St. Thomas’ Primary and Violet O. Jeffers Nicholls Primary School.

The late Tesril Nisbett was a Footballer extraordinaire. She played for CCC Bath United and wore the number “5”. Tesril represented St. Kitts and Nevis at the National level in Women’s Football and Athletics.

The tournament was named in her honour as a means of celebrating her legacy and contribution to female football in St.Kitts and Nevis.

While confirming that the tournament will be an annual fixture, Nevis’ Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton spoke about the objectives.

He said:

The tournament targets primary school age girls with the objective of :

1. Introducing girls to the game of football

2. Providing a platform for them to play football.

3. Identifying potential future national team players

4. Creating a connection between football and family

On behalf of the SKNFA, the Department of Sports and the Department of Education will introduce a program for girls in the primary schools.

Specifics of this program will be revealed shortly after a meeting with all the stakeholders especially the parents.

Present at the tournament were officials from the Sports Department, SKNFA and Bath United Coach, Alex Claxton.

Violet O. Jeffers Nicholls Primary School emerged winner’s of the inaugural tournament.

In a small ceremony teams were presented with participation trophies.

The awards were as follows:

Winners – Violet O. Jeffers Nicholls Primary School

Most Valuable Player – Mia Daniel, (VOJN)

Most Goals – Alaine Skeete, (STPS) -3 & Anaiah Wilkin, (VOJN) – 3

Best Goal Keeper – Emily Samroo, (STPS)
