SKNP,  Friday 25, November,  2016 – Wednesday 24, November will forever be etched in the walls of Grenadian history as it was the country’s first Constitutional Referendum on issues of regional interest.

Marked by low voter turn out, Supervisor of Elections,  Alex said Thursday morning that there are no complaints,  no headaches,  just low voter turnout.
The Amendments that were voted on were: CCJ and other Justice related matters, Elections and boundaries commission, Ensuring a leader of the Opposition, Fix date of the election, Name of state, Rights and Freedoms and Term of Office of prime Minister. For approval two thirds of valid votes had to been cast in favour.

All proposals were rejected by voters. 56.8 % of the voters voted against the CCJ while 43.3 % voted for it. The trend continued when 59.73 % voted against the boundaries commission, (40.27 For),  71.68 % voted against ensuring a leader of the Opposition, (28.32 For), 67.18 % voted against a fixed date of election,  (32.82 For), 56.21 against name of state,  (49.79 For), 76.34 % against rights and freedoms,  (23.66 For) and 73.92 % against Term of Office of Prime Ministers while 26.08 voted For it.

Grenada has set the trend in the Caribbean even though the Referendum failed.  It clearly shows that democracy is alive in Grenada.
