Kittitian Dion Browne to be presented with Queen Young Leaders Award

Young Ambassador from St. Kitts & Nevis shares how he uses sports to change lives and open hearts in his community, (first published in 2014).

SKN PULSE, Sunday 4, December 2016 – Dion Browne of St. Kitts has been selected to receive the esteemed Queen’s Young Leaders Award for 2017, (runner up: Xuxa Garroden). 

The 25-year-old who resides in Newtown has been chosen among 60 others in contribution to global issues like education, mental health, gender equality and climate change.

Dion has created, coordinated, and implemented a variety of projects, (Ripple Institute). He has also worked with the Caribbean Healthy Life style project which teaches young people how to live healthy and balanced lifestyles through athletic activities.

Browne also has the distinction of being one of the first individuals from St. Kitts and Nevis to take part in the Global Action Initiative: Sport and Social Impact Summit, (2014).

According to Dr. Astrid Banfield, Chief Executive of The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust  –  “We are delighted that these incredible young people have been selected as Queen’s Young Leaders, and wish our warmest congratulations to each and every one of them. The Queen’s Young Leaders Award is designed to inspire and nurture the talent of exceptional young people from all over the Commonwealth so that they can create and lead others towards securing positive changes in communities. The work being undertaken by the latest cohort of Queen’s Young Leaders is addressing some of the most crucial issues facing the Commonwealth today. We cannot wait to see how their impressive endeavors grow and develop over the course of the year to come and beyond.”

The Queen’s Young Leaders program supports and awards exceptional young people aged 18-29 from across the Commonwealth who make great contributions to the community. Winners of this prestigious Award will receive a package of training, mentoring and networking which also includes a one-week residential program in UK during which they will collect their Award from Her Majesty The Queen.

With this support, award winners will be expected to continue and develop the amazing work they are already doing in their communities. Trevis Belle of McKnight won the award last year.

The award will be presented next year.
