BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS March 30, 2017 – The opposition St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) stands ready and is prepared to take on the mantle of leadership again in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

That is the message from former Prime Minister the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, who used the opportunity to criticise the PLP leadership for threatening the jobs of persons on the PEP/STEP if they did not attend Saturday’s hastily-called PLP convention in Tabernacle.

“A St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party administration will put things right so that we can stand tall as we did before and was #1 in several areas. We want to attract investors in returning to St. Kitts and Nevis to invest,” said Dr. Douglas, the Leader of the Opposition.

“We want to ensure that work is provided for our young people. Too many are drifters now. The PEP has been totally politicised and only if you are in the Timothy Harris’ constituency and a few others who have been selected can get work,” said Dr. Douglas.

He told listeners that it was just on Monday that some young people on the PEP programme “were crying out loud that it was wrong for the Prime Minister and his surrogates to threaten their continued employment if they did not attend his PLP’s convention last Saturday.”

“This wrong people were receiving packages containing PLP shirts with a receipt in their names attached claiming they had paid for the shirt when they had not paid a red cent,” Dr. Douglas disclosed. This has been verified by several persons who posted on social media on Saturday.

“What is really going on with this stark corruption in the PLP at this level,” said Dr. Douglas.

“Labour is here to do what it did in the past. It will take the country forward where all persons at all levels benefitted and we are again lead and return this country where it should be,” said the former Prime Minister.
