Charlestown, Nevis, SKNPULSE – Former Test opener Kieran Powell and his Leeward Islands team opened their Super50 campaign with a 7 wicket win over Kent at Coolidge late Wednesday evening.

Nkrumah Bonner, the right-handed Jamaican player guided his team to victory with an impressive knock of 78 not out. Along with Hamilton, Bonner built his innings nicely as a solid foundation was already laid by Hodge, Hughes and Powell.

Captain Powell and his team having won the toss were chasing 228 for victory since the five penalty runs were deducted from Kent original score of 232. The early concentration exhibited by the Leewards were a clear indication that they were hungry for a victory.  Powell’s soft dismal while it proved to be a setback, the Leewards players stepped up their game.

Right-arm fast bowler Gavin Tongue (4-39) and leg-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall (2-35) were the main wicket takers for the Leeward Islands.
