Monroe College Athlete Nokuthula Dlamini Signs National Letter Of Intent With Texas Tech University

New Rochelle, N.Y. – “Commitment and hard work pays off. ” Mustang Athlete and Monroe College sophomore sensation Nokuthula Dlamini has signed a national letter of intent to run cross country and track for Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas next season. A feat she accomplished through her commitment,  discipline and hard work. 

When Dlamini graduates in June she will earn her Associate Degree from Monroe College. There after,  she will be taking her talents to the lone star State to compete for the Red Raiders in the fall of 2017.

Dlamini’s campaign this year has been nothing short of remarkable.  The Palmridge , South African  native earned All-America honors in six  different events: Cross Country, , 3K, 5K  , Distance Medley relay and 3200m- relay. Additionally, she was apart of the championship winning Distance Medley relay event at the NJCAA indoor national championship and the 4x800m relay at the Outdoor national championship.

Why Texas ?

” It reminds me of back home, I felt more comfortable and at ease ,” Dlamini. “Texas Tech, Kansas and Louisville   are  all great schools, but for me and what I want to do I just felt that Texas Tech  was a better fit. I connected more with the people there.”

Monroe College Head Cross Country coach / track and field’s Assistant Coach, Shirvon Greene, reflected on the signing, saying, “Dlamini is a world-class athlete who excels in many different events. She will bring a winning pedigree with her to the already-elite Texas Tech  program.”

Texas Tech  University is a member of the NCAA Division I  Big 12 Conference. The school is based in Lubbock Texas ,and carries an annual enrollment of approximately 35, 893.  Morton will start there in the Fall semester of 2017. 

This past season , Dlamini  set numerous records in not only cross country but also indoor and outdoor track as well. During cross country Dlamini set 2  course records . In 2015 she placed fifth at the National championship and at the most recently concluded national championship she placed seventh. As far as her track career Dlamini also set  school records for both the Indoor and outdoor season in the following events (  5k and  10k ).
