PRESS RELEASE…(October 17, 2018) – Administrator at the Alexandra Hospital, Gary Pemberton has commended the Nevis Co-operative Credit Union Limited (NCCU) for its continued display of generosity.

Pemberton’s comments came on Wednesday morning when he, backed by the support of Matron Aldris Pemberton-Dias and other senior hospital staff, accepted a financial donation from the NCCU.

“I just want to say thanks to the Nevis Co-operative Credit Union for this kind gesture and want to wish you all the best in your celebration of International Credit Union Day tomorrow (Oct. 18) and I also want to wish you every success in whatever you do as you continue to ensure that you provide for the people of Nevis and to ensure that we continue to provide quality healthcare at the Alexandra Hospital,” Pemberton said.

Wednesday’s donation is one of many by the NCCU as the institution uses its annual International Credit Union Week observance to show support to the island’s main healthcare facility.

While speaking at the brief ceremony, Pemberton highlighted the high cost associated with providing healthcare on Nevis noting that it “is an expensive venture”. He said, “if we are to ensure that we continue to provide quality service to our patients here at the Alexandra Hospital we (have to) always try to see how we can improve in whatever area we can” adding that they had “been able to purchase Vital Signs Monitors (in the past) with the donation received from the Nevis Co-operative Credit Union.”

President Vernesia Walters made the cheque presentation on the NCCU’s behalf. In delivering brief remarks she said the institution continues to demonstrate its “social responsibility” and “support to the wellness of the Nevis[ian] public.”

“Today, we are here to donate to the Alexandra Hospital $3000 that’s going towards the purchase of a Vital Signs Monitor. We do believe that this piece of equipment is going to be critical and it will definitely help to assist with the care of the patients here at the hospital,” Walters explained.

President Walters was supported at the ceremony by General Manager Sydney Newton and other members of the NCCU’s staff.

One of the Alexandra Hospital’s goals is to have a Vital Signs Monitor for each bed at its facility. Wednesday’s ceremony was held on the hospital’s grounds.
