BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – International, regional and local media houses are reporting that when Britain’s Prince Henry of Wales, arrived in St. Kitts and Nevis on Wednesday morning, there was no one to greet him.

Thirty six hours later, there was still no official explanation  from the Office of the Governor General, His Excellency Sir Tapley Seaton, the Office of Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris and the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Mark Brantley. Both Harris and Brantley were out of the country.

“He arrived a few minutes earlier than expected, and chatted with the security detail and members of the British press as he waited for the Governor General. His Excellency Sir Tapley Seaton QC arrived a short time later and after greeting him on the Marina’s steps escorted him in his official vehicle at the Port Zante arrival terminal,” local WINNFM reported.

With the screaming headline: “Prince harry arrives to an empty crowd,” Australia’s Woman’s Day reported that Prince Harry was “left red-faced once again” on arriving in St. Kitts and gave the “reason why no fans greeted Prince Harry on day 4 of the royal tour.”

“Just a day after the Antiguan Prime Minister teased him about marrying Meghan Markle, Prince Harry has been left red-faced once again. The punctual prince arrived a tad too early to St. Kitts and Nevis that it meant no one was there to greet him! Used to thronging crowds of thousands of well-wishes, the 32-year-old instead took in the view from the deck of his boat for around ten minutes until the scheduled arrival time,” Woman’s Day said.

Britain’s Telegraph reported that Prince Harry “docks at port on West Indies tour so early there is no one to welcome him.”

Chief Reporter, Gordon Rayner told millions of readers “turning up early is not really the done thing in the laid-back West Indies, as Prince Harrydiscovered to his cost.”

“The  Prince arrived in the Commonwealth realm of St Kitts and Nevis after an overnight crossing from Antigua, but docked so early that there was no one there to welcome him,” adding: “The island nation’s Governor General, Sir Tapley Seaton – the Queen’s representative in the country – arrived in Port Zante just a few minutes before the planned royal arrival, leaving the Prince admiring the view from the deck of Royal Fleet Auxiliary Wave Knight for 10 minutes before he could disembark.

The Express reported: “the Prince’s arrival was so prompt that he spent 10 minutes admiring the view before Sir Tapley greeted him.”

Caribbean News Now in its headline: “Prince Harry arrives in St Kitts-Nevis amid claims of disrespect by PM” reported:  “Chairman of the opposition Labour Party, Marcella Liburd, said the fact that Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris left St. Kitts three days ahead of Prince Harry’s planned visit to the island smacks of disrespect.

“I think it’s highly disrespectful for someone representing the monarchy to come into St Kitts — we knew well in advance — and for the prime minister to decide not to be here I think is a show of the type of disrespect that he metes out to people generally,” she said.

South Florida Caribbean News also carried reports on the public apology to Prince Harry by Leader of the Opposition, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas for the snubbing by Prime Minister Harris and Labour Party Chairperson, Hon. Marcella Liburd’s criticism on the absence of Dr. Harris from the Royal Visit.
