St. Kitts and Nevis (SKN PULSE): Yesterday, former Nevisian cricketer and goal-keeper, Warrington Phillip had his final appeal heard by the Law Lords of the London based Privy Council.

Back in 2008, Phillip was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his estranged wife, Shermel Phillip. The brutal murder however occured in 2007 at Shermel’s residence in St. John’s Parish.

Represented by Simons, Muirhead and Burton Solicitors in the UK, Phillip’s team based his appeal on bad character evidence, jury direction, counsel’s incompetence and failure of the judge to direct jury on DNA evidence.

The director of Public Prosecutions, Valston Graham along with special Prosecutor Dane Hamilton QC represented the State.

Phillip’s first appeal against his conviction was dismissed by the OECS Court of Appeal back in 2012.

After an almost five year wait, he’ll have to wait some more inorder to find out his final fate as an official date wasn’t announced for the presentation of the verdict.
