BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, May 16th 2017 – A poultry farmer in St. Kitts has lost 600 laying birds over a three day period as the Department of Agriculture is unable to provide adequate supply of feed.

The farmer has suffered losses close to EC$10,000. He has been able to get a small quantity from the Department of Agriculture in Nevis.

Monday afternoon, the Department of Agriculture confirmed it had no supply of chicken feed such as broiler, starter, and finisher.

“We do not have any. We expect soon. Maybe next week,” an individual said, although he admitted he was still uncertain a shipment would arrive.

Devin Richardson, a small livestock farmer complained last week of the frequent unavailability of the Department of Agriculture to provide feed for his stock when required.

St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) caretaker for St. Christopher 8, Dr. Terrance Drew disclosed he had received numerous complaints and expressed the view that not only is Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Eugene Hamilton, “dysfunctional and unable to perform,” but also the Ministry of Agriculture and the Department of Agriculture.

Popular pig farmer, Devin “Buckie Got It” Richardson has also complained of the frequency at which the Department of Agriculture has been unable to provide animal feed.
