Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 04, 2019 (RSCNPF): The Regional Security System (RSS) is currently hosting a two week course at the Ocean Terrace Inn on Digital Evidence Collection from July 01 – 12.

The course consists of sixteen (16) students hailing from Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, and St. Kitts and Nevis. They include Law Enforcement personnel from Major Crimes, Criminal Investigation Unit, and Beat and Patrol. At the end of the course, the participants will be certified as first responders in digital evidence and law.

Course facilitator, Inspector Logon Joseph from the Antigua and Barbuda Police Force said that the course is built to give officers the ability and knowledge to help when they go to a crime scene as first responders to capture and transport digital evidence.

“We will teach them the architectural make up of computers, how they function in the different operating systems, and how to get around them to find digital evidence on a crime scene,” he said.

He noted that retrieving digital evidence in the age of technology is very important and explained that the course will outline the different laws which speak to digital evidence that govern a number of territories throughout the region.

“We will touch on all the different laws that govern each one of the territories to give them an understanding or a Law Enforcement stand point on how they can treat and use digital evidence. At the end of it they would be fully grounded officers,” said the Inspector.
