Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas accepts Special Award for Leadership from UWI

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 10, 2018 – Former Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition in St. Kitts and Nevis, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas was presented a Special Award by the University of the West Indies as one of the most outstanding alumni, who has excelled in their fields of endeavour.

Dr. Douglas was among 70 persons who were honoured Wednesday morning during a ceremony at the Quadrangle, at the UWI, Barbados.

Dr. Douglas attended the University of the West Indies in Barbados, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977, followed by a medical degree in 1984 from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica.

After a two-year internship in Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Douglas returned to St Kitts and established a private medical practice.

Dr. Douglas has represented St. Christopher 6 in the National Assembly since 1989, serving as Leader of the Opposition until 1995, as Prime Minister from 1995 to 2015 and is currently Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition.

For the past 70 years The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has provided service and leadership to the Caribbean region.
