St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The assault on a male and female security team last Friday and the subsequent death of the female, have left citizens shocked, despondent, anxious, and angry.

A band of robbers opened fire on couple Seymour Liburd and Arlene Nisbett, owners and employees of Reliable Security Company, just after 7pm on October 28th. The couple was in the process of depositing monies from a nearby company in the Royal Bank night deposit at the Horsford Shopping Complex.

Ms Nisbett died from her injuries later that night, and Mr. Liburd remains hospitalized with serious injury to one of his legs.

He tells WINN FM when the shooting took place, he mistook the gunfire for fireworks

“I hear the hail of gunfire and actually thought it was fire crackers because you know, we are getting close to Guy Fawkes.”

Mr. Liburd, who has been in the security business for over 20 years, says coping with what happened has been difficult but he is trying to be strong for his longtime mate Arlene.

“I’m trying to be in high spirits especially for her because she was a very positive and strong person. I think she would want me to be this way.”

The injured man says his family, friends, and staff have been seriously impacted by the tragedy.

“Obviously it has affected us in a very adverse way but everybody is rallying around. A lot of family and friends and so have been really supportive to me and that is what is keeping me going right now.”

WINN FM asked Mr. Liburd if after recovery, he would return to active security work.

“Why not? Why should I allow some thugs to determine my destiny?”

Mr. Liburd is scheduled to travel overseas any day now for surgery to repair the fractured bone in his leg.

The perpetrators of this most recent robbery and homicide remain at large.
