Tropical Storm Irma forms in Atlantic

SKN PULSE – Irma, the ninth tropical storm of the season has formed over the Eastern Atlantic.

According to advisories, the system is expected to approach the area by early next week and interests in the Lesser Antilles are advised to monitor its progress.

At 11:00 am, the storm was located over 1300 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.

Winds are at 50 miles per hour with further strengthing anticipated as the storm moves in a western direction at 13 miles per hour.

Irma could become a hurricane by Friday.

Weak unstable conditions will continue to produce cloudiness, shower and isolated thunderstorm activity across parts of the island chain during the next 24 hours.

A westward moving tropical wave across the Central Tropical Atlantic is expected to approach the area by late Friday.

Slight to moderate seas are expected during the next 24 hours with waves peaking near 5.0 feet.
