Eighteen Nevisian students attending Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas are the beneficiaries of financial assistance from the Nevisian Association of Washington DC (NEV-DC).

Responding to a request from the Ruth Liburd Foundation through the Embassy of St. Kitts and Nevis to help students at Midwestern, the group raised $2700 in no time.

In a press release NEV-DC stated:

The call went out to the members and in a short time over $2,700 was raised. The organization then contributed an additional $2,500 to the funds collected.

These funds are being distributed equally to 18 Nevisian students. Many of the students are currently volunteering at food pantries and able to get their food needs met. The students will be able to use these funds to help defray the cost of rent, medication, or other needs.

The assistance is timely since COVID-19 has caused school and state closures. Due to this, the students were no longer able to work and earn income to sustain their lifestyle while at school.
