Police investigating report of gunshots fired at home and vehicle of Deputy Prime Minister

Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 10, 2017 (SKNP): The Police Public Relations Unit issued a press release early this morning indicating that the police are currently investigating a report of a shooting incident which occurred about after 3.15am on Friday (March 10) in Sandy Point.

 

According to the release, initial investigations have revealed that an unknown assailant(s) fired a number of gunshots at the residence of the Honourable Shawn Richards, the representative for constituency number five for the People’s Action Movement and Deputy Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis.

 

The release further states that the police responded and observed damages to the home and his vehicle. While the Hon. Shawn Richards and other family members were at home at the time of the incident, there were no injuries.

 

Additionally, officers from District “B”, the K-9 Unit and the Special Services Unit (SSU) responded.  Technicians from the Forensics Services Unit are currently processing the scene and have already collected items of evidential value.   

 

Superintendent Lionel Moore, the District “B” Commander, in soliciting the assistance of the public said, “This is a rather troubling incident”.  The police are urging persons who may have information with regards to this incident to kindly come forward.  You can do so anonymously by calling any station, Crime Stoppers or by using the SKN Crime Reporter App on your Smartphone.

 

The investigation is ongoing.
